About Helen Page Music - Your Friendly Violin Teacher

I have had a lifelong interest in music, learning to play both the violin and piano as a young child. I achieved Grade 8s in both of these instruments at the age of 15 and played in numerous orchestras and ensembles as a teen.

I studied Music at A level alongside History and Chemistry and was delighted to continue my musical training after securing a place at King's College, London alongside studying violin with Professor Clarence Myerscough at the Royal Academy of Music.  During this time, I was appointed Principal Violinist of the University Symphony Orchestra and had the enormous privilege of attending a Violin Masterclass given by the late Yehudi Menuhin.  I graduated with a BMus(Hons) and followed this with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education at Reading University.

I worked as a secondary school class Music teacher for a number of years, and became Head of Year 7, before moving on to concentrate on my violin and piano teaching, as well as having the opportunity to perform more.  In 2008, I was selected as one of twelve teachers nationwide, to take part in a project in Southern India working in a charity school for slum children in Bangalore which involved leading workshops and providing resources for teachers, and working with the children to encourage music making in the school. I have been teaching both the piano and violin for nearly thirty years and love it!

My students who choose to take ABRSM exams do consistently well and I always value the fun element in learning music!  I have also had success with students in auditions for the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain.  I teach all ages from age 5 to 90+!!
